The federal government has a number of criminal statutes to consider.<\/p>\n<p>The Travel Act and the Wire Act both prohibit illegal gambling on sporting events. The Travel Act also prohibits money laundering of illegal gambling proceeds. The Wire Act is also applicable to Internet gambling.<\/p>\n<p>The Illegal Gambling Business Act imposes penalties on owners of illegal gambling businesses. They may face up to five years in prison for operating an illegal gambling business. The statute has been the subject of several court cases, including United States v. O&#8217;Brien, United States v. Mick, United States v. Grey, and United States v. Nicolaou.<\/p>\n<p>In the context of gambling, the Travel Act has a few other stipulations. For example, it prohibits facilitating illegal gambling, promoting illegal gambling, and accepting financial instruments from illegal Internet bets. The Travel Act also prohibits money laundering and promotion of illegal gambling.<\/p>\n<p>The CRS Report RS21984 has a lot to say about online gambling. In particular, the report details the legal status of remote gaming. In addition, it provides a list of citations to state gambling laws and other statutes. The CRS Report RS21984 is a useful resource for anyone interested in online gambling.<\/p>\n<p>The Liechtenstein International Lottery was the first place for the general public to place a bet online.
